Alannah Spencer

Soprano Alannah Spencer is a Chicago based singer who is equally at home in solo, choral, and chamber repertoire. This season she is the Vocal Fellow with Art Song Chicago (formerly Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago) and will present her solo recital Waiting and Weaving: Penelope in Song with the organization in November 2025.  In the 2024/25 season, Alannah performed the roles of Countess (Le nozze di Figaro) and Marie/Marietta (Die tote Stadt- Chicago premiere) with Chicago City Opera. In the 2023/24 season she toured with Opera for the Young performing Tooty Fruity in Beauty and the Beast  with and for hundreds of elementary schoolers across the Midwest. She was a Studio Artist with Madison Opera in the 2022/23 season where she covered the title  role in Salome, sang in the Jazz Trio for Trouble in Tahiti and performed Barbarina and covered Countess in Le nozze di Figaro. Other recent roles include Rodolfo La femme Boheme (Ouroboros Opera); First Customer She Loves Me (Madison Opera); and Luise Die Abreise (Evanston Chamber Opera).

As a choral singer, Alannah sings with the Grant Park Music Festival Chorus, the Chicago Symphony Chorus, and Consonance (formerly Chicago Choral Artists). She also joins the roster of the Lyric Opera Chorus this fall. Alannah is a founding member of the feminist opera collective The Valkyrie Ensemble with whom she will make her Chicago directorial debut this Spring with an all femme production of Handel’s Acis and Galatea. She is also one half of the voice/percussion duo VoxBox with her husband Andrew Baldwin.

A lover of new music, Alannah enjoys collaborating with composers to bring new works to life, and has premiered over a dozen new chamber and solo pieces. She was part of the third place team in the inaugural Chicago Song-Slam competition and is featured on the album A Horse With Wings: An album of Shakespeare settings by Elizabeth Rudolph.

When not singing, Alannah works in Public Relations for arts and non-profit organizations throughout the Chicago area. In her free time, she can often be found lovingly admiring the trilobite display at the Field Museum.
